Boston Dynamics Atlas Enters Full Production at Hyundai Plant

Boston Dynamics confirmed Atlas is now operating in full production mode at Hyundai's Metaplant America in Bryan County, Georgia. Twenty-eight Atlas units handle chassis sub-assembly during 2nd and 3rd shifts, with a planned scale-up to 200 units by Q1 2027.

The deployment marks the first time the electric Atlas, unveiled in April 2024, has moved from R&D demonstrations to revenue-generating production work. Hyundai cites a 31% productivity improvement and zero recordable safety incidents during the 14-week pilot.

Boston Dynamics CEO Robert Playter said the Atlas Operations team is now structured around "fleet support" rather than "demonstrations," signaling a deeper commercial pivot for the SoftBank-backed firm.
