China Announces $2.8B State Procurement Program for Domestic Humanoids
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) unveiled a ¥20 billion (~$2.8B) state procurement program on June 10 to purchase 100,000 humanoid robots from domestic manufacturers between July 2026 and December 2027.
Where Robots Will Be Deployed
- 40,000 units to state-owned manufacturing enterprises (SOEs)
- 25,000 units to public hospitals for logistics and assistance roles
- 20,000 units to elder-care facilities and community centers
- 15,000 units to public-sector logistics, agriculture, and security pilots
Eligible Vendors
Initial shortlist includes Unitree, UBTech, Fourier Intelligence, EngineAI, AgiBot, LimX Dynamics, Kepler, Galbot, and Xiaomi Robotics. To qualify, units must meet a 60% domestic-component threshold.
Strategic Context
The move is the largest single robotics procurement program in history and is widely seen as a direct response to the US's $12B National Robotics Strategy unveiled a week later. Analysts at Citi estimate Chinese humanoid production will exceed 250,000 units in 2027, more than 3x the rest of the world combined.
