Analysis: Humanoid Bill-of-Materials Falls 38% Year-Over-Year
A new teardown analysis from Munro & Associates and TechInsights, released on June 16, pegs the average tier-1 humanoid robot bill-of-materials (BOM) at $33,200 — down 38% from $54,000 in mid-2025.
Where the Savings Came From
- Actuators: -47% (driven by Chinese reduction-gear capacity additions)
- Batteries: -22% (commoditization of automotive-grade LFP packs)
- Compute: -19% (Jetson Thor and AMD Versal alternatives)
- Sensors: -31% (commodity ToF and event cameras displacing LiDAR)
- Structural / chassis: -8%
Implications
At a $33K BOM, the path to a sub-$25K retail humanoid by 2027 looks credible for mass-market applications. The analysis also notes that Western manufacturers run BOMs roughly 50% above Chinese peers, primarily on actuators and reduction gears — the focus of recent US executive-order export-control measures.
