Neura Robotics Announces 'European Sovereign Humanoid Stack'

Neura Robotics announced the EuroHumanoid initiative on June 24, a consortium spanning Germany's Neura, France's Mistral AI, the Netherlands' Brainport Robotics, and Italy's IIT (Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia). The goal: a fully European humanoid stack — hardware, actuators, foundation model, and middleware — built without dependence on US or Chinese suppliers.

The initiative is backed by €620M from the EU Commission's AI Factories program and is expected to deliver a first reference humanoid, codenamed "Aurora," by mid-2027. Neura CEO David Reger framed the move as essential for Europe's "industrial sovereignty" in the next decade.

EuroHumanoid is the latest in a wave of regional-sovereignty robotics programs, alongside the US's $12B strategy and China's $2.8B procurement plan.
